However, if the dish were 15" long, or a bit longer, it could well have been an ice cream dish, for serving scoops and scoops of ice cream. Then, of course, one could use the matching 6" diameter nappies with the loop handle, for the individual serving of ice cream.

We use ours as a celery dish

Another word for what you could serve hors d'oeuvres in -- such as celery, stuffed or plain, other small edible finger foods.

If it were a bit longer, 15" or 18", it could be an ice cream bowl, used with smaller cut glass dishes, approx. 6 " d., with small loop handle, for the individual ice cream portions.

I vote for celery dish. We have one exactly like it, and that's what my mother always called it.

can't tell for sure but to me, it looks like a dish to serve deviled eggs!

Dozens of people have guessed celery dish or pickle dish, even asparagus dish. If it were that easy, would Kovel's have bothered making it a Whatsit Wednesday thing? They are usually puzzlers, not obvious items.

It's a pickle or celery dish - made of cut glass.
