A A A

Our readers have been sending us their “What’s it Wednesday” treasures and many have even stumped us! Please help us identify this unknown object.

Our reader wrote: "I am an avid fan of the “What’s it Wednesday” feature of the newsletter. I’m hoping someone can identify this item. Attached is a photo. It has moveable parts and I’m not sure if it’s ivory, Bakelite or wood. Maybe it’s some kind of fingernail tool? It was found in a jewelry box in my mother-in-law’s cedar chest."

We’re stumped, too. If any readers know what this is, please let us know!

If you have your own "whatsit," our editors can include it in a future post. Please send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. The size is unknown.

it looks like a tool that has multiple uses. A letter opener a can opener-like they used in the military, etc and when folded together looks like a person

The bottom part does look like nail tools, but I can't quite make sense of the top part if it is pivoted upward.
