Don’t Polish Old Coins

Do NOT polish old coins. Cleaning reduces the value. The natural toning of the coin is a patina that protects the coin. Cleaning with any abrasive substance like toothpaste, baking soda, jeweler’s rouge or metal polish leaves fine scratch lines on the coin that collectors hate.
