A copy of a police report appeared in our local paper last week. “Suspicious, Northview Road: A woman cleaning and preparing a home for an estate sale found what looked like a hand grenade in the basement. The police bomb squad determined the device was a real World War I-era grenade but was disabled. It was removed from the home for disposal.” Check attics and storage areas for grenades, bullets and even dynamite. Do not remove them yourself. Call the police or bomb squad. Heat and movement can set off old explosives even years later.
