Animal Head Cane

Q: I was given this cane many years ago and unfortunately I was not told of any history. Would it be possible to learn more and if this is of any value? I was not able to find any markings.

A: Animal head canes are not unusual. Dogs, horses, birds, and other animals are popular subjects. The value of the cane is determined by the material as well as the quality of the design. An ordinary wooden cane with a metal animal head might sell for $25 or less. Canes made of exotic woods, with intricate carving, or with solid silver or gold heads sell for higher prices.
