Martin Brothers of Middlesex, England, made Martinware, a salt-glazed stoneware, between 1873 and 1915. Many figural jugs and vases were made by the four brothers. Of special interest are the fanciful birds, usually made with removable heads. The bird-like creatures were called "Wally Birds." Most pieces have the incised name of the artists plus the date or other information on the bottom.
