A huge six-sheet "Casablanca" movie poster, 81 inches square, sold for $107,550 at Heritage Auctions on March 23-24, 2013. Only two are known. Six-sheets were used by theaters as small billboards and hung outside theater doors. We wonder where this one has been stored since 1942, the year the famous movie premiered.

Right around 1990, the magnificent Centre theatre on State Street in Salt Lake City was demolished. In the weeks before, a friend of mine was invited to explore the back offices of the theater, which had been built in 1937. There he found a storeroom full of posters such as this one dating back to the opening of the theater. All the posters had been kept, many in their original shipping tubes, and in pristine condition. He contacted an individual in Hollywood and an agreement was made to purchase the entire lot, sight unseen, for a high six figure price. There was no inventory of the posters that were included, though a look through some of the earlier tubes revealed comparable material. I suspect this was one of the posters from that collection.
