When rewiring an old lamp, put a dimmer switch on the cord to turn the lamp on and off. This will protect the original switch and pull chains. If you must replace any parts, save the original parts for the next owner, who may want to restore the lamp.

I was going to have an Antique table lamp rewired. However I ended up in the hospital ICU unit. My Mom found someone to rewire it, When I got out of the hospital I got a bill for $400.00. By then it was too late to do anything about this added surprise.
