Fake Shawnee Pottery dog-shaped cookie jars have been seen at flea markets and online. The slightly smaller, poorly made copies often have decorations that were never used on old Shawnee. "Enhanced" cookie jars are also turning up. These were made by Shawnee but had slight defects and were originally sold as seconds. Buyers covered slight glaze flaws or other defects by painting over them with patches or gold trim or even hair. And some cookie jars have been seen with recently applied gold trim that's too bright and shows no signs of wear.
