What’s more fun to collect than Valentines? Especially popular with collectors are dimensional valentines with parts that pop up when they’re opened.
Pictured is a dimensional valentine that was made in Germany in the early 1900s. It’s big—11 inches square by 4 inches deep—and pictures an early automobile filled with children, cherubs and flowers. A folded tissue paper honeycomb center and a flower pop up when it’s opened. It’s one of two that sold for $173 at a Noel Barrett auction in Pennsylvania.
Do you have a dimensional valentine? Display it open in a shadowbox picture frame. Be sure to use archival mounting.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
