Decorating tastes are changing and making some antiques more valuable, some less. Patterned wallpaper, rugs and pillows and large vases are popular again, as are four-poster beds and beds with testers. Small figurines are out but large vases and lamps are in. “Brown furniture” has been hard to sell for the last ten years, but younger buyers have noticed that antique pieces are made of solid wood and are buying pieces to use for storage or altering them to look more modern. Watch for bargain priced antique furniture at the summer flea markets.
