A rare 1787 American-made gold coin by silversmith and goldsmith Ephraim Brasher (1744-1828) sold in January 2021 for a record $9.36 million at a Heritage Auction. Called the “1787 New York-Style Brasher Doubloon,” this was only the third time the coin has been sold since 1848. The U.S. Mint didn’t begin releasing coins until 1793. This coin is known as “The World’s Most Famous Coin” and is one of seven known to exist.
