White Sneaker Fad

Hottest new fashion statement is white sneakers. The fad, started in 1971 by a tennis player’s endorsement, had cooled off by the 1980s but started to reappear about two years ago. Look for vintage pairs or spend big dollars for designer examples from St. Laurent (over $500), or a python pair for almost $2,500. But beware. To be fashionable they must be clean.
