The Earth Seat

New use for garden dirt. An improved potty seat was patented in 1860. The “earth seat” used a pot full of garden soil or ashes instead of an empty chamber pot. The used pot could be emptied into a corner of the yard and eventually buried. It was actually more sanitary than earlier potties used in bedrooms at that time. The inventor was Reverend Henry Moule.
