Collectors are always hoping they have turned up a Stradivarius violin. A reader wrote: “It’s a real Stradivarius violin. The label inside says ‘Antonius Stradivarius Cremonensis Faciebat Anno 1652 Made in Germany.’ The date is written by hand.” Sorry. Antonio Stradivari worked in Italy (Cremonia), but he wasn’t born until 1644 and his violins were not made in Germany. The violin is a copy.
