Sports Trading Card Hits New Record

A Honus Wagner T206 baseball card graded excellent sold for a record $3.12 million at a Goldin auction in October 2016. It’s the first sports trading card to auction for more than $3 million. The first price list for cigarette cards, published in 1933, listed a Wagner card for $50, the highest priced card at the time. In 2013, Goldin sold a Wagner card for over $2 million. Fifteen years earlier, that card sold at Heritage for $227,500. And Robert Edwards sold a Wagner in April 2015 for $1.32 million.
