An historic Quarter Eagle U.S. coin minted in 1808 set a world record when it sold for $2.35 million at a Stack’s Bowers-Sotheby’s auction on May 19, 2015, in New York. The coin, originally worth $2.50, is now the most valuable 19th-century U.S. gold coin. It was part of a collection of 128 U.S. coins that sold for $25 million.
