Some collectors live in old houses, and some buy parts of old houses to install in a new house. Antique paneling, tiles, fireplace surrounds, windows, doors, hardware, light fixtures, floor boards and trim are available. But not many collectors can display a whole section of an old house in their new one. Phillips of London recently auctioned a “demountable” barrack designed for the French Corps of Engineers by French architect Jean Prouvé. The barrack, made in 1943-44, sold for $306,600.
