Prints by Paul Jacoulet (1896–1960) are selling for higher prices at auctions this year, some for over $1,000. A few Jacoulet prints are listed in Kovels’ Antiques & Collectible Price Guide 1995 for about $300. He was a Frenchman living in Japan who created his own style. He learned traditional methods of making woodblock prints and used them to make pictures of people. Traditional Japanese woodblocks usually have a background scene. Jacoulet’s prints have a plain background behind the people.
