Installing a Dead-Bolt Lock

If you’re installing a dead-bolt lock for safety, use screws that are more than 1 inch long. Best are screws 1 1/2 to 2 inches long. Short screws aren’t long enough to securely hold the strike plate in place on the door frame. A burglar could force the door open by tearing the strike plate off the frame.
