Collectors’ Survey Results

Here are results from an online survey of 1,000 collectors: Most like items that hang on a wall—paintings, prints and photographs—more than pieces displayed on a floor—sculptures, furniture and large pieces of pottery or glass. Those under 40 want contemporary pieces, but those over 60 want older things. Most go to shows, including art fairs, but prefer to buy at galleries, auctions or directly from an artist. About 95 percent use the Internet for research but only 34 percent use it to buy. AXA Art, an insurance company, conducted the survey.
