Some “brown furniture,” 18th and 19th century furniture in Chippendale, Sheraton and other styles is wanted again. The Chippendale desk with a drop front that serves as a desk top, a drawer unit at the back that has an empty center section or drawer that can hold a laptop. When closed, it’s an attractive piece of well-made, historic furniture. An average desk went for $3,000 in the 1980s, $300 in 2009 when they weren’t even taken to flea markets or shows, and about $1,000 to $3,000 today.
