Modern artists are deliberately making and breaking sculptures to represent ruins. London’s Tate Gallery is showing 100 artworks related to the ravages of nature and time in an exhibit titled “Ruin Lust.” It runs through May 18, 2014. Our favorite, made in 1987, is a fractured bust of David held together with string and wooden shims. Not a new idea. Wedgwood made jasperware models of columns deliberately broken to be displayed on a table.
