Beer cans were used as parts of walls in some adobe houses built in western states during the 1950s. They added strength and the empty cans provided insulation. Some can collectors have been searching for this type of building since the first was “dug” in 1979. An article in Beer Cans & Brewery Collectibles July 2017 issue shows some of the nearly 400 rescued collectible cans and tells the story of this unfamiliar way to add to a collection.
