Q: I bought this figurine some time ago. It is 10 inches tall and is marked "Marguerite de Flandre 1341" and "Germany" on the bottom. Can you tell me who made it and how old it is?

A: Your figurine was made by Carl Thieme Saxonian Porcelain Factory of Potschappel, Saxony, Germany (it was in East Germany before the reunification of Germany). The Carl Thieme factory was established in 1872. It was nationalized in 1972 and re-privatized in 1990. It is still in business, now called Sachsische Porzellan-Manufaktur Dresden. This particular mark was used from about 1876 to 1888. The date on the figurine, 1341, is the year Marguerite of Flanders was married.
