Q: We found a set of three ceramic figures when my mother-in-law died. One figure is a man wearing a hat that says “Bourbon” and another is a man playing a guitar that says “Vodka.” The third figure is a Scottish man playing bagpipes with “Scotch” on the front. The heads of each figure pop on and off. Underneath each it says “Member of the Bar by Swank.” What can you tell us about them?

A: These decanters were made for Swank, a company that makes accessories for men. An ad for six Swank decanters ran in a December 1959 issue of Life magazine. The decanters were selling for $3.95 each. McCoy Pottery of Roseville, Ohio, made advertising items for Swank, but some of these decanters are labeled “Japan,” so may not have been made by McCoy. Value today, about $10-$15 each.

I inherited a Rosenthal Candy Bowl from my late Father, who acquired it from the Rosenthal factory while he served in the US Army during WWII. It is signed on the bottom and the Marker dates to 1943. Can anyone provide more information about the bowl. I can’t find one like it on Ebay or Etsy. I have photos.

My grandmother (RIP) had a Royal Nippon vase, with beiges and brown’s in the backgroumd, palm trees in the foreground, along with a few trees, and also water and a mountain in the background. The bottom of the vase has the ‘Royal Nippon’ stamp on it, but it also has some handwriting in blue. The handwriting looks like it was fired into the vase (just like the RN stamp). I can’t quite make out the handwriting, but it includes a date of ‘1916’. The vase itself is 12″ tall, handles on each side, 4″ wide at the bottom and the mouth, and is about 7-8″ wide at the widest point (towards the top). Does anyone know the value of this vase? I don’t want to get rid of it; I just want to know how valuable it is.

I inherited a beautiful medium size white porcelain covered soup tureen from my mother. It is in wonderful condition and measures 9 ⅝ in diameter from handle to handle and 6 ⅞ in diameter rim to rim. It stands 5 ¾” tall without the lid and about 9 ¼” with the lid. The lid is embossed with a leaf and twig pattern near the finial that is shaped like a seed pod. The only mark I can find is on the bottom on the tureen, where a fancy “W” has been etched in the glaze. Would you have an idea of the manufacturer or its age?

BUDAPEST. I have the photos but I can’t see a way to attach here. Any ideas? Answers?

My grandmother received a gift of a pitcher from a dear friend who passed. I have been able to identify very little about it. Thru research I believe the signature is ‘Elbee’, signed Italy and numbered 30/50. It is lava finish, with orange and gold markings. Can anyone direct me to finding out more about it? I can attach a picture. Thank you!

I have a cup and saucer from Syracuse China. The cup is stamped 2-D Syralite on the bottom. On the front it reads “Major horum est caritas”. The plain white saucer is stamped Syralite by Syracuse, 98-J. I have been unable to find anything like it online.

i found this unique vase {i think} at Goodwill. The opening and top half is wider than the rest which makes me think it’s something other than a vase. It’s 6.5 ” tall, the opening is oval-ish & measures approx 3″ x 3.5″ It is not glazed. Matte Green with a brownish color around opening. It has a small face coming out the side. It looks like the face is making an indentation into the vase. I have searched endlessly. The marking on the bottom is an imprinted “J” .. ANYTHING YOU MIGHT OFFER would be AWESOME!!!!

Hello! I could use some help…I bought a vintage gilt bar cart with 2 glass shelves, round bottle holders on each side and a 10 bottle wine rack under the 2nd shelf. The only marking I can find is on the 3 original ball casters (which appear to be gilt painted plastic…not metal). The marking is a large C, and a smaller L contained inside the curve of the C. I think it may be Cesare Lacca but cannot find any evidence of this marking. I can send pix if necessary. Thanks!

Hello I was given a pewter box that is rectangle shape and when opened it has a removable small tray that sits inside it kinda like a floating shelf inside. It has what appears to be bamboo engraving on the top and sides. I have pictures if you would like them. It has marks inside that read KUT HING SWATOW with other markings that I believe are Chinese.

I have just purchased a collection of Japanese dolls from a friend of the family’s 105 year mother. She travel the world throughout her years. The few of the 11″ dolls are music boxes and the hands are made of some type of soft rubber. Is there a way I can tell if this dolls are actually from Japan (such as markings or the way the doll would be made) and are they worth trying to resell for her daughter?
