A painting that sold for $414,800 in June 2013 had been found in a Westchester County, N.Y., home covered with a dusty bed sheet. Staff from the Clarke Auction Gallery of Larchmont, N.Y., discovered the painting when they picked up items from the estate. The oil painting, by Richard Oelze, had been done in Paris in 1935. It was sold in "as found" condition, with dirt on the surface and a few tears and punctures. The surrealist painting had been shown in a major exhibition in 1942. Few of Oelze's paintings have been available at auctions.
