We waited almost a year for Ceramics from the House of Amphora, 1890-1915 by Richard Scott et al. (P.O. Box 43, Sidney, OH 45365, $82.50). It is now available and worth the wait. This is the history of pottery in Turn-Teplitz, Bohemia, including Paul Dachsel, Ernst Wahliss, Alfred Stellmacher, Eduard Stellmacher, and Riessner, Stellmacher and Kessel, all referred to as “Amphora” today. (Amphora is actually the trade name used by Riessner, Stellmacher and Kessel.) The extraordinary pictures of pieces photographed in color and labeled with information and marks are what collectors need. Factory and artist histories, the story of pottery in the region, and even tips on collecting and restoring Amphora make this a must-have reference book.
