Sometimes the best reference material is a catalog from a museum exhibit. Bringing Modernism Home: Ohio Decorative Arts, 1890-1960, by Carol Boram-Hays (Ohio University Press, Athens, OH, c2005, 241 pages; hardcover, $40; large-format paperback, $26) was published for an exhibit earlier this year at the Columbus Museum of Art. The book covers major Ohio designers and their work in glass, metalwork, furniture, and more. Included are nationally important figures like Viktor Schreckengost, Edris Eckhardt, and Edward Winter; pottery by Cowan, Roseville, Rookwood, and Hall; glass from Cambridge, Libbey, and Heisey; and furniture by the Troy Sunshade Company.
