Q: I’ve had this print of the “Ivory Soap Babies” since the 1930s or ’40s. Does it have any value?

A: This is an ad for Swan Soap, not Ivory, which is why the carousel has swans instead of horses. Swan Soap was first made in 1941 by Lever Brothers Company. The company commissioned artists Louise Rumely and Albert Staehle to create a series of pictures of babies and swans to use in its ads. It’s reported that Rumely drew the babies and Staehle drew the swans. The pictures were used in magazine ads in 1942. There are three different prints. Copies of the prints that were suitable for framing were available in exchange for Swan Soap wrappers. Value of your print, about $50.
