Q: I’d like some information about this puppy still bank. It has an embossed bee on the back. There are traces of the original paint remaining in some areas. It’s 6 1/2 inches high and is very heavy. There’s no makers label or mark. Can you tell me how old it is and what it’s worth?

A: This little dog is Puppo, who was designed by Grace Drayton and first appeared in a comic book in 1911. Drayton began working with Hubley Manufacturing Company in1914. The company was founded in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, by John E. Hubley in 1894. It started out making accessories and equipment for electric trains. Cast iron toys and banks were made beginning about 1909. Puppo banks were made until the late 1940s. Puppo dog banks or figurines retail for about $30.
