Q: I inherited about 13 boxes of Fry glassware. There are full sets of different colors, including etched leaded glass, pink, pink with gold, green, rare black, opalescent, and bakeware with original labels. The label says “Fry’s guaranteed triple strength, transparent, pearl ovenware, H.C. Fry Glass Co., Rochester, Pa.” Who would be interested in this?
A: The H.C. Fry Glass Company was founded in Rochester, Pennsylvania, by Henry Clay Fry in 1901. The company patented a heat-resistant glass called Pearl Ovenglass in 1922. Fry Foval, an opal ware decorated with colored trim, was made in 1926 and 1927. The word “Foval” is an acronym of “Fry Ovenglass Art Line.” Reproductions have been made. You might be able to find interested collectors by contacting the H.C. Fry Glass Society, PO Box 41, Beaver, PA 15009.
The Fry Society has a Facebook page with members from across the country and Canada. You can find us at H.C. Fry Glass Society on Facebook. Information on membership in the group is also available on that page. This would be the easiest way to contact us.
