Q: We have an original Amos and Andy cab that winds up and runs forward, then stops and shakes, then proceeds forward and repeats itself until it runs down. We would appreciate your estimate of its value. It’s in original mint condition.

A: You have an “Amos ‘n’ Andy’s Fresh Air Taxi,” originally made in 1931 by Louis Marx and Co. Amos Jones and Andy Brown, owners of the Fresh Air Taxi Co., were characters on a radio show that debuted in 1928 and ran until 1960. The show also ran on television from 1951 to 1953, and in syndication from 1954 to 1966. The taxi originally came with the two men and a dog. Amos was the driver, the dog sat next to him, and Andy sat in the back seat. The taxi also had a horseshoe-shaped radiator cap and crank. Slightly different versions of the taxi were made. The toy, which originally sold for 95 cents, was one of the most popular toys Marx ever made. The complete toy is worth $500 or more today. Value of your incomplete toy: $50.
