Q: This is part  of a tea set my 91-year-old mother had as a child. She remembers getting it on her sixth birthday in 1930. It has a teapot, sugar and creamer, six plates, and five cups and saucers. (One is missing.) The box says it’s from F.A.O. Schwarz. Can you tell us the value of this tea set?

A: The value of a child’s tea set depends on condition and design. Some flow blue sets, or sets with designs that picture Little Orphan Annie or other popular characters, appeal more to collectors than others. A 15-piece child’s tea set with luster glaze in a traditional design sells for about $35. The value of your mother’s set will be reduced because it’s missing one cup and saucer.
