Q: I have a used ticket for the 1936 Democratic National Convention that was held in Philadelphia. It says “Guest, Upper Balcony, Seventh Session” and “Not reserved.” Along the bottom it says “Gate 5” and “Section N” but there is nothing marked in “Row” and “Seat.” The stub is torn off. What is this ticket worth?

A: President Franklin D. Roosevelt and Vice President John Garner were nominated for a second term at the 1936 Democratic Convention. The convention was held from July 23 to July 27. Tickets were issued for 10 sessions for seating on the Floor, Gallery, Lower Balcony, and Upper Balcony at Convention Hall, and for sessions held at Franklin Field. Tickets were printed in several colors and for different classes, including Delegate or Alternate, Honored Guest, Special Guest, Guest, Employee, Appointee, Bearer, and Courtesy Card. The most desirable tickets were those for delegates or alternates, who were on the floor. Value of your ticket, $20 to $40.
