Perfume Lamp

Q:  Years ago I purchased this bulldog night-light at an estate sale. It’s porcelain and is 4 1/2 inches tall and 5 1/2 inches long. There are several holes in the top of its head. The body is orange and the eyes are green glass. The bottom is stamped “Germany” and has this maker’s mark, which I drew. How was is used?
