The media likes reporting the high prices of antique French paperweights. For many years, the value was rising so quickly that paperweights were considered a better investment than stocks or real estate. Unfortunately, few of us will ever discover the rare antique paperweight in fine condition that would sell for over $258,500 (a record price set in 1990). The paperweights we might own could be average-to-good antique French, English, or American weights, modern weights, or Chinese or Italian copies of old weights. They could also be some of the many paperweights that are not all glass: the snow weights, advertising weights, and others.
