Brownies

Brownies were first drawn in 1883 by Palmer Cox (1840-1924). Brownies were characters in a series of children's stories. 1887's The Brownies, Their Book, a collection of fourteen Brownies stories, was the first Brownie book published. They are characterized by large round eyes, downturned mouths, and skinny legs. Toys, books, dinnerware, figurines, and other objects were made with the Brownies as part of the design.
