Fireplaces

Fireplaces

Fireplaces were used to cook food and to heat the American home in past centuries. By Victorian times, the fireplace was made with a surround of tiles or wood with unusual shapes. Many types of tools and equipment were used. Andirons held the logs in place, firebacks reflected the heat into the room, and tongs were used to move either fuel or food. Chenets are a type of andirons. Many types of spits and roasting jacks were made and may be listed in the Kitchen category.
