Gouda

Gouda, Holland, has been a pottery center since the seventeenth century. Two firms, the Zenith pottery, established in 1749, and the Zuid-Hollandsche pottery, made the colorful art pottery marked Gouda from 1898 to about 1964. Other factories that made “Gouda” style pottery include Regina (1898-1979), Schoonhoven (1920- present), Ivora (1630-1965), Goedewaagen (1610-1779), Dirk Goedewaagen (1779-1982), and Royal Goedewaagen (1983-present). Many pieces featured Art Nouveau or Art Deco designs. Pattern names in Dutch are often included in the mark.
