Glasses

Glasses

Glasses for the eyes, or spectacles, were mentioned in a manuscript in 1289 and have been used ever since. Sometime before 1727, the modern style of glasses, held in place by the temples, the pieces that extend behind the ears, was developed. Bifocals were invented by Benjamin Franklin in 1785. Lorgnettes were popular in late Victorian times. Opera Glasses are listed in their own category.
