Popeye

Popeye

Popeye was introduced to the Thimble Theatre comic strip in 1929. The character became a favorite of readers. In 1932, an animated cartoon featuring Popeye was made by Paramount Studios. The cartoon series continued and became even more popular when it was shown on television starting in the 1950s. Another set of 220 cartoons, commissioned by King Features Syndicate, ran from 1960 to 1962. The full-length movie with Robin Williams as Popeye was made in 1980. KFS stands for King Features Syndicate, the distributor of the comic strip. For more information, explore our identification guides for comic strip toys, other toys, and paper
