A teacher in San Rafael, Calif., has inherited about $7.4 million in gold coins from a 69-year-old cousin she didn’t know was wealthy. After the cousin died, the gold was found in boxes stacked in the garage of his Nevada home. Court officials found his heir through information about survivors listed in his father's early 1960s death notice. Records show the coins were purchased beginning in 1964 or even earlier, so it's possible the man's mother bought most of them after her husband died.
