Sing Fat Robe
Q:
My grandfather bought this little embroidered silk robe for one of his grandsons when he was on a business trip to San Francisco in 1918. The original box the robe came in is also pictured. The robe is 20 inches long and has a label on the back that says, “Dragon Trade Mark, Sing Fat Co., Made in Japan.” Four Chinese or Japanese character symbols and a dragon are sewn around the words on the label. I would like to know the history of the Sing Fat Co. And what is the best way to safely display the robe?
