Reproductions of just about every early Coca-Cola tray have been made. Lots of “fantasy” trays also show up at flea markets and online. Fantasy trays may look old, but their designs were never used on original trays. Most repro and fantasy trays that could fool collectors date from the 1970s and ’80s. Some repros are clearly marked “for memorabilia purposes”; others are not. Repro trays often have backs that are dark green or black rather than the lighter colors found on originals. And many repros have fuzzy or blotchy printing or slight discrepancies in the graphics (a different logo on the Coke glass, perhaps, or a missing Coke bottle). If you don’t mind owning and displaying repro or fantasy trays, don’t pay more than a few dollars for one.
