Wheatley Pottery was established in 1880. Thomas J. Wheatley had worked in Cincinnati, Ohio, with the founders of the art pottery movement, including M. Louise McLaughlin of the Rookwood Pottery. Wheatley Pottery was purchased by the Cambridge Tile Manufacturing Company in 1927. Wheatley was renamed the Wheatley Tile & Pottery Company, moved to Hartwell, Ohio, in 1929, and stopped making art tiles.
