Soft paste is a name for a type of pottery. Although it looks very much like porcelain, it is a chemically different material. Most of the soft-paste wares were made in the early nineteenth century. Soft paste porcelain has been made in Vincennes, France, since 1743. Other pieces may be listed under Gaudy Dutch or Leeds.
