Salt Glaze Salt Glaze

Salt glaze has a grayish white surface with a texture like an orange peel. It is a method of decoration that has been used since the eighteenth century. Salt-glazed pieces are still being made. Salt glaze was made by throwing slat into the kiln while the pottery was being fired.
