Goebel is the mark used by W. Goebel Porzellanfabrik of Oeslau, Germany, now Rodental, Germany. The company was founded by Franz Detleff and William Goebel in 1871. It was known as F&W Goebel. Slates, slate pencils, and marbles were made. Soon the company began making porcelain tableware and figurines. Hummel figurines were first made by Goebel in 1935 and are now being made by another company. Drawings of children at work and play by Berta Hummel, then known as sister Maria Innocentia, are the basis of all the Hummel figurines. Goebel is still in business. Old pieces marked Goebel Hummel are listed under Hummel in this book.
