Bookmarks Bookmarks

Bookmarks were originally made of parchment, cloth, or leather. Bookmarks have been in use since the medieval period, when parchment was favored. Soon woven silk ribbon, thin cardboard, celluloid, wood, silver, tortoiseshell, and metals were used. Examples made before 1850 are scarce, but there are many to be found dating before 1920 and they are still made.
